February 11, 1992 -- Dolphin Networks announces LAN Command Professional,
Artificial-Intelligent Network Management for NetBIOS Networks.
Boston, MA--Dolphin Networks (based in Norcross, Georgia) announced today
at NetWorld 92 Boston, LAN Command Professional--the comprehensive.
proactive network management system for administrators of NetBIOS LANs.
The software-only product runs on a single client PC, and features
powerful artificial intelligence (AI), English-text alarms and reports,
and intelligent alarm handling.
Capable of true enterprise-wide operation, LAN Command Professional
automatically crosses bridges, routers and gateways to monitor any
networked server or client--without any additional software or hardware on
those remote segments. Topology independent, it simultaneously monitors
attached Arcnet, Ethernet and Token Ring LANs from a single site.
"Because the complexity of the network environment is growing along with
the number of installations, network administrators have told us that they
need a network management system to troubleshoot problems before their
network goes down," says Phil Kim, Marketing Manager.
"LAN Command Professional is "trained" to manage like an expert--first,
proactively monitoring the network for hundreds of problems; second,
automatically using its intelligence to detect and forward alarms to the
administrator; and third, taking user-defined actions to correct the
problem on its own."
Other features integrated within LAN Command Professional include:
∙ A powerful, relational network database with support for up to 25,000
nodes.
∙ A comprehensive monitoring of both servers and clients, and a single
display showing:
∙ Traffic statistics
∙ Network alarms
∙ Skylined bandwidth chart
∙ English-text alarms and analysis
∙ Extensive English-text diagnostic reports on the entire network.
∙ Benchmarking tools to test, analyze and tune a client, server on the
entire network.
∙ An unlimited number of custom reports and bar charts supported.
∙ Support for LC Contact, the add-on, PC remote control and diagnostic
software.
Dolphin Networks will be exhibiting LAN Command Professional, along with
their other products, in Booth #4010 (in the Hynes Convention Center) at
NetWorld Boston. The product will become commercially available starting
May 1992 through major resellers and distributors.
Pricing is set according the number of nodes monitored: 50-node ($895),
100-node ($1,295), 250-node ($1,995), 500-node ($3,995), 750-node ($5,995)
and 1,000-node ($7,995).
The system requirements include an IBM PC/XT/AT or 100% compatible, 512
KBytes of RAM, 1 megabyte available on a local hard disk, and a network
interface card (NIC). CGA, EGA and VGA video is supported, and a color
monitor is recommended.

FEBRUARY 11, 1992--Dolphin Networks Announces LC Benchmark for Novell
Networks A Comprehensive Network Simulation and Performance-Measurement
Solution
Boston, MA--Dolphin Networks (based in Norcross, Georgia) announced today
at NetWorld 92 Boston LC Benchmark: a performance-measurement and
simulation package for Novell 286 & 386 networks. Running on a DOS-based
client workstation, LC Benchmark uses an expert system to measure and
predict the performance of a PC, a pair of nodes, or the entire network.
Optionally, LC Benchmark can also accurately predict the performance of
any new or planned network configuration running any application.
When testing an installed network, LC Benchmark automatically finds all
nodes-- across all bridges, routers and gateways--and populates a database
with information gathered from the network. Applying specific test suites
and its advanced expert system, LC Benchmark measures the performance of
individual stations, two-station dialogues, or the entire network. With
these features, LC Benchmark pinpoints problems and allows an
administrator to quickly isolate any faulty or failing equipment across
the network.
In addition to pinpointing the bottlenecks of an installation, LC Benchmark
also determine a PC's performance in a network environment by conducting
extensive tests on the installed network card, the CPU, the memory, the
video card, the local hard drive, and other components that either
directly or indirectly impact performance. With this feature, a network
administrator can easily benchmark multiple PC's to identify the machine
configuration with the best network performance--prior to making any
purchase decision.
Also available are optional library modules which work in conjunction with
LC Benchmark to simulate the performance of any network device and
application. These modules consist of two types:
∙ A Device Profile Module (DPM)--which describes a network device.
∙ An Application Profile Module (APM)--which describes a software
application. By importing the data from a DPM and an APM module into a
record--which in turn represents a "node" on the network--an administrator
can easily project the impact of additional or replacement equipment, as
well as the performance of new applications on an actual network, or even
layout an entirely new "network."
LC Benchmark can also capture the data from a network into custom DPM and
APM modules. Because the capture option draws on the actual performance
for a specific node, these custom modules effectively emulate how a "real"
node would perform.
A single-site license for LC Benchmark is $1,995 and the optional library
modules begin at $99. LC Benchmark will become generally available April
1992 through major resellers and distributors. The library modules are
available directly through Dolphin Networks.
The minimum system requirements include an IBM PC/XT/AT or 100% compatible,
640 KBytes of RAM. 2 megabytes of available storage on a local hard disk,
and a network interface card (NIC). CGA, EGA and VGA video is supported.
and a color monitor is suggested.
